MARITIME SALE ON JULY 4

An internet live auction dedicated to the sea, to all its enthusiasts, and to collectors of nautical instruments is scheduled for Wednesday, July 4th on Aste Bolaffi’s website. The catalogue, consisting of 226 lots, is full of interesting proposals ranging from Gio Ponti’s design objects, like the mirror depicting "Gli amori delle sirene" (lot 193, starting price € 5,000), to a special collection of memorabilia from one of the most exciting chapters in the history of Italian sailing: the Moro di Venezia, the boat headed by Raul Gardini in the 1992 America's Cup and winner of the Louis Vuitton Cup.
The collection of Gabriele Bassetti, a member of the Moro V crew during the America's Cup competition and captain of various Moro boats, includes rarities such as two carbon-look Moro V half hulls, made with pieces recovered from the aft deck of the boat cut to lighten it for the America's Cup final (lots 214 and 219, starting prices € 1,500 and € 2,000). It also includes the head of the gennaker G46E sail bearing the signatures of the crew captained by Paul Cayard (lot 211, starting price € 500), the Moro di Venezia II cockpit table, and the maxi yacht launched in 1983 with which Gardini began the adventure (lot 218, starting price € 2,500).
The catalogue also contains nautical instruments, naval models, posters, paintings and books, as well as a collection of transatlantic memorabilia such as fascinating furnishings from the Augustus ocean liner, a travel trunk with a Rex label, and a series of memorabilia from Costa cruise ships.
