RETURN OF THE TRADING CARDS: AUCTION SET FOR 20 JUNE ON ASTEBOLAFFI.IT

The catalogue of the second live online trading cards auction organised by Aste Bolaffi (www.astebolaffi.it) on 20 June comprises close to 450 lots. The cards date from the 1930s through to the present and also include lots of rookies, that is the first appearances of athletes after they have reached the highest level of their sport.
The first 200 lots are single trading cards or lots dedicated to soccer, from Meazza through to Mbappé. The second part of the catalogue is dedicated to complete sets and sealed albums. Lots of Italian publishing houses are represented, including Panini, Vallardi, Euroflash, Marlin, Edis and DS. The catalogue closes with a selection dedicated to champions of other sports (Cassius Clay, Jack Nicklaus, Mario Andretti, Tazio Nuvolari, Ayrton Senna) and singers and stars of showbiz. One stand-out example is the rookie card of the Beatles, Supercarta 1964 (lot 445, reserve price EUR 200).
Focus, first part
The catalogue opens with an interesting series of cards depicting Giuseppe Meazza, the finest footballer of the 1930s, including a rare portrait of him in an Italy shirt (lot 5, reserve price EUR 100). There are also rare rookie cards of Gianni Rivera (lot 26, starting price 1000 euro), produced by Nannina in 1959, and Zinedine Zidane, depicted on a full page of Onze Mondial magazine (1991) in which the card was published (lot 115, reserve price EUR 500). The majority of the trading cards come with a grading, i.e. the quality and authenticity certification issued by the biggest US certification bodies. There is also a packet of Panini Calciatori 1979 stickers which, with any luck, may contain the rookie card of Maradona (lot 201, reserve price EUR 100).
Focus, second part
Among other things, the second part of the catalogue includes: the Colombian version of the Panini Italia ’90 album (lot 301, reserve price EUR 150); the famous and highly sought-after Panini album of the legendary 1970 World Cup in Mexico (lot 225, reserve price EUR 2,000); the Panini Euro 2004 album including the first sticker of Cristiano Ronaldo in a Portugal shirt (lot 355, reserve price EUR 100).
