GLENFIDDICH, THE ANCIENT SCOTTISH SECRET OF SINGLE MALT WHISKY

Single malt whisky is the most famous product in the world that belongs to Scottish tradition, but until the 1960s it was quite a secret from Highlands, little known abroad where mostly blends from different distilleries were sold. It was Sandy Grant Gordon, great grandson of the founder of Glenfiddich distillery, to bring for the first time in 1963 single malt whisky beyond Scottish borders making this jewel of distillery very popular.
Those were troubled years and many small, independent distillers, usually selling their whiskies to blenders, were bought up or went out of business. It was to save Glenfiddich that Sandy Grant Gordon decided to increase production and export abroad for the first time a Scottish single malt, creating a new category of whisky in the distillate market. He also introduced a visitor centre that started whisky tourism in Scotland.
Glenfiddich whisky is one of the stars in the online auction that will take place on July 4, organized by Aste Bolaffi. Specifically, lot 138 is a bottle of pure single malt whisky aged 8 years in barrel. Stored in the typical triangular bottle, this distillate contains the true flavor of the Highlands and, thanks to the revolutionary mind of Sandy Grant Gordon, today we can appreciate it all over the world.
