Pieces by Black Starr & Frost, Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels, and a sophisticated selection of diamonds and important antique jewels will be the protagonists of Aste Bolaffi’s upcoming fine jewels auction on October 16th in Milan. The auction proposes a vast and diverse selection, with over 500 lots all coming from important private collections. In the catalogue there is also a piece from the Iranian artist Bahman Mohasses, considered by many to be the “Persian Picasso” (lot 422, starting price 5,000 euros). His works are exhibited in museums throughout the world, and those in circulation are rare and highly sought-after since a large part of his works were destroyed during the Iranian Revolution and by the artist himself.
The auction will present an exquisite collection of lots from the ‘20s-‘40s including a Black, Starr & Frost diamond and ruby bracelet, part of the best production of the American jeweler that reached the height of its splendor in the Art Deco period, of which the bracelet is an excellent example (lot 512, starting price 30,000 euros). From the same period the auction includes a Cartier rectangular brooch set in diamonds weighing approximately 8 carats overall, with its original fitted case (lot 510, starting price 15,000 euros).
In the chapter dedicated to modern jewels, a Scavia demi-parure composed of a necklace and earrings with Burmese rubies (36 carats), Colombian emeralds (45 ct) and blue sapphires (64 ct) of excellent quality (lots 511, starting price 20,000 euros) stands out, as does a Van Cleef & Arpels bracelet set in diamonds weighing 14.47 carats.
A wide selection of diamonds enriches the catalogue; there are unmounted and some large carat diamonds, like the ring with an emerald-cut diamond weighing 7.06 carats flanked by two tapered diamonds weighing 1.05 carats (lot 509, starting price 35,000 euros).
Among the antique jewels, some especially interesting pieces are a ring from the late 19th century with a round Colombian emerald weighing 3.40 carats (lot 435, starting price 9,000 euros) that combines the rarity of the antique ring with the exceptional transparency and intense color of the gem, an antique hair pin with an en tremblant butterfly in its exquisite original fitted case (lot 244), and silver and enamel earrings (lot 308) rare enough to be considered museum objects.
