IMPORTANTE CAMMEO IN CORNIOLA, BENEDETTO PISTRUCCI
di forma ovale raffigurante Medusa di profilo con capo ornato
da ali di pipistrello e da serpenti anche annodati sotto la gola.
Firmato Pistrucci. Circa 1850. Il cammeo misura cm 3,70 x 3,00.
La montatura in oro bicolore 18 kt a volute impreziosite da diamanti
taglio brillante di ct 0,30 ca. é stata realizzata negli anni ‘60.
Un cammeo con Medusa dello stesso autore, in diaspro rosso,
è conservato al Met di New York.
Benedetto Pistrucci (Roma,1783-Windsor,1855) è annoverato tra
i più grandi incisori del XIX secolo. A lui si deve la figura di San
Giorgio e il drago che compare sulle Sterline. Cfr “Dizionario

IMPORTANT CARNELIAN CAMEO, BENEDETTO PISTRUCCI
of oval shape depicting Medusa’s profile with head adorned
with bat wings and snakes, even knotted under her neck.
Signed Pistrucci. Circa 1850. The cameo measures 3,70 x 3,00 cm.
The mounting in 18K two-tone gold of scroll design highlighted
with brilliant-cut diamonds weighing approx. 0.30 ct was made in
the 1960’s. A cameo depicting Medusa of the same artist, in red
jasper, is on show at the Met in New York.
Benedetto Pistrucci (Roma,1783-Windsor,1855) is considered one
of the greatest carvers of the XIX Century. He is responsable for the
Saint George and the Dragon image present on the Sovereigns.
