A MOUNTAIN JADE WITH CARVING OF
LANDSCAPE WITH FIGURES
China, Qing dynasty, 18th Century

inscription on the front.
4.92 x 4.41 x 2.60 in.

By optimising the natural shape of the jade,
a rocky landscape was carved that invites the
viewer to embark on an unusual journey within
the microcosm of the stone. The scenery finds an
explanation in the inscription that reproduces a
famous poem by Qian Qi (710-782). Divided into
four verses of five characters each, the poem is
entitled Gazing at Mount Lu from a boat on the
Yangtze.
