China, Qing dynasty, 17th-19th Century
Carved wood, lacquered or dry-lacquered, gilded and painted. One of
the devotional niches on the back is missing its lid: the small offerings
can still be seen inside.
Paint is worn, various breaks and missing pieces, woodworm damage.

Legno intagliato, laccato, dipinto e parzialmente dorato. Lavorazione
dettagliata. La figura è ben conservata ma con segni di tarli. Nicchia sul
dorso sigillata. Etichetta “1862, Kuang Hsu” (Guangxu).

A SHRINE WITH GUANYIN AND INFANT
China, Qing dynasty, 19th Century
Carved, lacquered, painted, and partially gilded wood. Skillful
craftsmanship. The figure is in good condition but with some signs of
woodworm. Niche on back sealed. Label reading “1862, Kuang Hsu”
(Guangxu).
